Money, Money, Money, Moneeeeeey!

Although we will be visiting another country, yes Baja California is in Mexico, a foreign country. Fear not, pesos are not required. But, we highly recommend you bring small denominations, lots of $1 and $5 to start with.

Before your cruise you may need to tip your baggage porter, the car valet, room service attendant, bartender etc. On the cruise you might want to give a few dollars to the cruise terminal baggage attendants, room service wait staff, spa staff and perhaps some extra dollars for your dining staff at the end because they brought you two extra escargot & a lobster . And remember on the bar bill a 15% gratuity is included so check your receipt before signing.

On Saturday Night in your cabin, you will be given some extra envelopes for your cruise staff. You are not obligated to pay any additional tip as you have already pre-paid your gratuity. However, if someone went out of the way to serve you? Remember like those two extra escargot, lobster and then there is the “I can’t decide which dessert to have”, so they bring you all three. It might be a nice gesture to take an envelope to Sunday dinner and when you are saying good bye you can show your appreciation for their extra effort.

In Ensenada they welcome US Dollars, but if you don’t have the small denominations the vendors may give it back to you in pesos. So be prepared and when you do get your change ask for US Dollars, unless you want pesos for souvenirs.

Upon check in at the cruise terminal you will need a credit card so that Carnival can link your spending on their Sail & Sign Card while you are on board the ship. It’s a floating resort and all you have to do is sign. But be sure you ask for and save your receipts, it will add up. You can also get a current account on your cabin TV.

The nice thing is you are in control and so spending can be a lot or as little as you choose. There is generally access to ATM on board for cash with a fee I’m sure and/or the Purser can assist you with your monetary questions or need.
