Port of Call… ..ENSENADA, MEXICO

Our cruise itinerary will sail us into Ensenada on Saturday, December 5, 2009. We will be docking into port by 9am and you will hear the ship horn around 5pm as we depart by 6pm.

Ensenada de Todos Santos or the Port of Ensenada is the third largest city in the Mexican State of Baja California. Ensenada known as the “Cinderella of the Pacific” (La Bella Cenicienta del PacĂfico) is the largest county in Mexico. Located on the Pacific side of Baja, Ensenada is approximately 70 miles south of the San Diego-Tijuana international border crossing. Ensenada was discovered on September 17th, 1542 by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, a Portuguese explorer sailing under a Spanish flag. The population of Ensenada is approximately 400,000. There are also many different cultures from the U.S., Asia and Europe that came here in the 1920's and still reside today. More that 150,000 Americans have residences in Ensenada and surrounding communities.

Ensenada is an important port for commercial, fishing and cruise ships. Ensenada sits in the heart of a wine country that is widely regarded as the best in Mexico. It is said that in 1703 the first common grape vine made it to the peninsula, when Padre Juan de Ugarte planted the first vineyard..

So enough about facts, figures & historical nonsense...stay tuned for an upcoming blog posting about the inside favorite places that Roger & Diana like to frequent on their day in Ensenada.
